Stone Opens Pro Stock Tour With Win At Fonda

April 18, 2015 (Fonda, NY) – On a packed night at Fonda Speedway fans were treated to an opener for the ages. The Lazzaro’s Auto Body King Of Dirt Pro Stock Series kicked off a brand new racing season with some familiar face earning the big win, with Nick Stone claiming the victory.

The Lazzaro’s Auto Body King Of Dirt Pro Stock 30 Lap Hood Popper was a crowd pleaser with Pete Broderson taking the early lead in the Lazzaro’s Auto Body 53b.

Cousin Luke Horning was up for the challenge early and often in the Stone Motorsports 2H-keeping pace while holding off the pressure from Walt Brownell in the Masonry Supply 87.

Yellow flag flew on lap 11 for the slowing 97x of Dan Older, which doubled up the field for a restart. On the restart Horning used the outside to take the lead for a moment from Broderson before the 53b powered back by.

Brownell began pressuring Horning for the runner up spot, which he would eventually take and begin applying the same pressure to Broderson for the lead. While that battle was taking shape the Stone Motorsports 27 of Nick Stone was moving into the top 5 bringing the Lazzaro’s Auto Body 7 of Rob Yetman along for the fight.

Yellow flag flew again on lap 19 when the 24b of John Bradt hit the back stretch wall rather hard. Thankfully Bradt was uninjured, just a little shaken needing to take a precautionary ride in the Rural Metro Ambulance.

On the restart a 3-wide battle shaped up for the lead between Broderson, Horning, and Brownell. Inadvertent contact with the leader from the Brownell 87 sent Brodoerson spinning. Contact with the leader resulted in officials sending the 87 to rear.

This set up Horning and Stone on the front row as win contenders, but on the restart Horning suffered a flat right rear bringing out the caution quickly and restacking the field. Horning would recover later in the race for an impressive finish.

On the ensuing restart Stone took over the top spot and big Jim Normoyle in the Chris’s Collision 7n shot out of a cannon going from 8th to 4th making his presence known he was ready to battle for the win.

Lebanon Valley track champion Robbie Speed moved into contention with the Speed’s Garage 24s before being shuffled around after a 3 wide battle sent him up the track in turn 2. Speed would return to the field and recover for a 15th place finish.

Multi-time champion Rob Yetman quietly made his way to the front in the 30-lap feature. The 2-time strait Super Dirt Week champion was in the battle for the win in the closing laps along with Dean Charboneau, but it was Nick Stone’s race to win.

Stone took the win followed by Yetman, Normoyle, Charboneau, Horning, Martin, Gates, Denton, Brownell, and Dumblewski rounded out the top 10.

KOD NOTES: Nick Stone picked up where he left off in 2014. Rob Yetman and Dean Charboneau both represented Albany-Saratoga well by making their way to the front by the end of the race.

Jim Normoyle impressed the crowd with big moves twice during the feature for a 3rd place finish. Former Fonda champion ‘Krazy’ Kenny Martin had a quiet, but productive day. Suffered a flat in the heat, came from the consi cars, and finished 6th respectively.

Multi-Time Utica Rome track champion Tom Denton had a solid 8th place finish in his KOD opener, while Lebanon Valley regular Jason Casey came from deep in the field to finish a respective 11th place.

Luke Horning, Walt Brownell, and Robbie Speed all recovered from incidents during the race to finish top 15. Tough break for a few contenders such as Pete Broderson, Kim Duell, and Frank Twing who had their races ended early.

John Bradt debuted a new Pro Stock car only to have an unfortunate accident end his evening early. Thankfully he was uninjured though shaken. Best wishes for a speedy recovery both in health and equipment.
