October 8, 2017 (Oswego, NY) – Rocky Warner kicked off Super Dirt Week XLVI at Utica Rome Speedway Tuesday night for the DIRTcar Sportsman special. He’d roll to a heat win and later hound the Glen Forward 7c for the top spot before a shot broke. He’d limp home to a 12th place finish.
It is believed that two-time King Of Dirt Racing Sportsman Champion Rocky Warner is competing in his last DIRTcar Sportsman Super Dirt Week, as all plans are in place to move him up to Modifieds full time in 2018.
He clicked off the 5th fastest time overall in day 1 practice at Oswego, seemingly getting faster as the run went on. Time trials will set the table for Warner, but first he had an event at the Brewerton Speedway to tackle.
Warner timed fastest, won his heat, and looked on his way to victory in the 50-lap DIRTcar Sportsman Series event at the D-Shaped dirt demon, but Central New York hot shoe Dave Marcuccilli had other plans. The duo would battle for the top spot for a number of laps before the flyin’ squirrel eventually gave way to the punisher. Rocky would finish 4th respectively.
Back to Oswego for more Super Dirt Week action and since the KOD/DIRTcar East region champ was already locked into the Chevy Performance 75 due to a blistering fast lap, he elected to start tail and just shake down the brand new Teo Pro Car during the 15 lap qualifying event under the lights Friday night.
When Dave Farney dropped the green flag on the Chevy Performance 75 DIRTcar Sportsman Super Dirt Week championship Rocky Warner went to work. He quickly moved from his 5th starting spot to 3rd to battle with eventual winner and friend Dave Marcuccilli.
A late race restart saw Warner loose a couple spots while using the outside, but the multi-time champ ended up battling back and finishing 5th respectively.
