Rich Crane Makes A Pair Of 3-Wide Passes On 1st Lap Going From 8th To 1st And Wins 40-Lap KOD Pro Stock Event At Utica Rome Speedway Sunday Night

711-2

July 23, 2018 (Vernon, NY) – Weather threatened to end the night early for the King Of Dirt Racing Pro Stock Series for the third time at Utica Rome Speedway, but the drivers voted to run a 40-lap feature and skip heat races. Rich Crane took advantage of not one, but two three-wide passes on lap one to go from his 8th starting spot to the lead and he never looked back picking up his first career KOD Pro Stock win.

Shane Henderson and Jay Casey led the field to the green flag, but it wouldn’t last long as perhaps the move of the race came on the very first lap. Rich Crane powered the 711 to the outside grove and not once, but twice went three-wide to go from his 8th starting spot to the lead before the first circuit was complete.

Crane’s move had everyone pointing and saying “wow,” as he took the top spot leaving Jay Casey, Shane Henderson, and Pete Setfanski to battle for positions two through four.

Tough break for ‘Big Wood’ Jason Meltz who thought he had something going wrong with the Ghent Wood Products 51, but turns out he had a flat right rear tire. His night was over after just seven laps into the 40-lap main event.

Jon Routhier was moving on up grabbing the 6th position by lap 10, while Mike Welch, Jason Casey, and Travis Welch all battled for positions inside the top 10.

By the mid-way point of the race Chuck Dumblewski began flexing his muscle. The Amsterdam NAPA number 7d started 15th and powered his way to 5th, but he wasn’t done yet. He’d spend some time pressuring the Routhier 315 and Henderson number nine for position ultimately ending up 3rd by races end.

Back up front Rich Crane was sailing and despite a late race charge from Pete Stefanski and almost going over the birm in turn one, he earned his first career King Of Dirt Racing Pro Stock victory at a track he’s only visited a couple of times.

Pete Stefanski, Chuck Dumblewski, Shane Henderson, and Jon Routhier completed the top five, while Jay Casey, Jason Casey, Mike Welch, Bill Knapp, and Travis Welch rounded out the top 10.

“This is great. I really like this track and I’ve only been here a couple times. Any one of these guys could’ve won this race, so I’m just super happy to win. I must thank the 315, 322, and 324 teams. Without them I wouldn’t be here, they keep me going week in and week out,” said Crane in victory lane.

Next stop for the King Of Dirt Racing Pro Stock Series is Fonda Speedway on Wednesday August 1st for the Hondo Classic, which will be a championship points scale race for the tour during one of the Capital Regions biggest Pro Stock races of the season put together by Kelley and Kaitlyn Keefe in honor and memory of Hondo Carpenter.
