October 6, 2018 (Oswego, NY) – Allison Ricci had a fan vote on where to spend her Columbus Day weekend and they spoke loud and clear; go to racing’s biggest party. The Halmar International 55 racing team packed up and headed to Oswego for her first Super Dirt Week as a competitor, where the award winning King Of Dirt driver faced her biggest challenged behind the wheel. At the end of the day there would be no Camping World 150 for the New Paltz pilot.
Ricci would start the day 33rd fastest in practice out of 69 cars, but then the track changed drastically. On the slippery surface for time trails and she’d lay down a lap of 21.961, which was good for 45th fastest. Based on her time she’d start 15th in 25-lap qualifier number three.
Things didn’t go Ricci’s way in her qualifying event, as only six laps into the 25-lap affair she found herself in the pits with a flat right front tire. She’d rejoin the field starting deep on the restart and began making some passes until coming back down pit road on lap 12. When all said and done Ricci managed to work her way back to 20th, but she’d have to run the last chance qualifier for any hopes on making the Camping World 150.
On the very first lap of the LCQ Allison had to dodge a three car wreck in turn two and wound up tagging the boiler plate wall pretty good. She’d come down pit road for a left front flat, which the team would change. The team would look over the car and send their driver back out where she’d restart 19th and work her way up to 12th, but sadly miss out on qualifying for the big race on Saturday.
Super Dirt Week 47 was a learning experience for Allison Ricci, as she was able to continue her outstanding off track work for Miles Of Hope Breast Cancer Research by selling merchandise. All proceeds in the month of October go to the charity that she has worked tirelessly with over the past few years. Also she gained valuable experience going forward towards her next Super Dirt Week attempt.
