2018 Dirty Dozen Driver Michael Sabia Entertains But Falls Short; Misses Qualifying For Chevy Performance 75 At Super Dirt Week

October 6, 2018 (Oswego, NY) – Michael Sabia is exiting to watch race to say the least. The 2-time Mr. Crate Track USA Champion headed to Super Dirt Week in Oswego with high hopes, but his chances of qualifying for Sunday’s Chevy Performance 75 for DIRTcar Sportsman came to an end in a respectable manner at the clay palace. Despite his best efforts he missed making the big show by a few spots and the curse of the clay palace continues for the Lebanon Valley ace.

After turning the 27th fastest time in practice he’d hit the track for time trials where he turned a lap of 22.781, which was 34th fastest out of 92 DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds that took time. This would put Michael starting 9th in qualifier number two with 15 laps to get in the dance.

To start the Friday night qualifier he found himself in a heavy battle with Mike Fowler followed by dicing it up with Paolo Pascarella. While battling for the 7th position he lost the handles on the Sabia Lanscaping & Excavating Teo Pro Car and was hit while spinning by CJ Casteletti. He’d head to the pits to replace the flat right rear tire and rejoin the field.

Despite gaining a handful of positions after restarting 18th, Sabia finished 13th and that wasn’t going to get the charismatic wheelman from Connecticut in the dance. He’d start 13th in last chance qualifier number two and when the green flag dropped he found himself in a three way battle with Jamie Bagor and Jean Francois Tessier. When the 10 laps were complete he finished 8th respectively, but missed qualifying for the Chevy Performance 75 on Sunday.
