October 7, 2018 (Oswego, NY) – When big races roll around it would seem Robert Bublak Jr. is bad fast. He was the Burt’s Tree Service – Saratoga Masonry Fast Timer at the Northeast Crate Nationals and backed that up by winning his triple 15-lap qualifier at Super Dirt Week in Oswego putting him in the show for the Chevy Performance 75 Championship at the clay palace Sunday.
Bublak started his qualifying efforts by turning the 17th fastest time in practice before the track changed to slick and black. When time trials rolled around the M&J Construction 27b laid down a lap of 22.495, which was 9th fastest out of 92 competing drivers. That would put him starting 3rd in the very first qualifying event for the DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds.
With Dave Marcuccilli and Jackson Gill locked into the main event and electing not to run the qualifier it meant Robert would fire from the pole position, but when the green flag dropped head starter Dave Farney didn’t like the jump Bobby Henry Jr. had and called the start back.
On the second attempt Bublak and Henry went side-by-side into turn one where Bublak would make his move taking over the top spot. Never knowing what to expect when you’re the leader, he’d settle in about three car lengths in front of second place and go unchallenged for the win. Picking up the 15-lap qualifying event win puts him into the Chevy Performance 75 on Sunday where he’ll fire from the 7th starting position.
