July 20, 2022 – Fair Haven, VT – Limited Sportsman Points Update: For Cody O’Brien (DBS) and Kevin Ames (LVS) winning their second race of the season is a huge boost in confidence and on the Elmo’s Speed Supply King Of Dirt Racing Limited Sportsman leaderboard. Zach Dufel (FON), Danielle Smith (FMP), and Paul DeRuyter (CAN) continue their winning ways.
With every finished added to a drivers total leading up to their best 12, the point standings are an ever changing landscape even for the competitors in the Limited Sportsman division. Drivers vying for the first ever Limited Crown are in a unique situation, being they’re not only competing weekly learning the ropes, but they’re trying to earn a KOD series title in the process.
Each week KOD highlights a ‘podium’ of finishers who made headlines at their respective home tracks, and this week we’re starting with Devil’s Bowl Speedway racer Cody O’Brien. The Springfield, VT driver earned his 2nd win of the season moving him up three on the leaderboard driving his Jelley’s Mobil – Timber Ridge Logging number 27 Bicknell Racing Chassis.
Lebanon Valley Speedway Limited Sportsman racer Kevin Ames earned his second win of the season also last weekend. The Stephentown, NY racer has experienced ups and downs, but grinds it out weekly in the valley of speed. He’ll climb the leaderboard with more finishes posted in his Warner & Sons Plumbing and Heating – Zia’s Pizza number 43 Teo Pro Car.
Our third and final highlighted Limited Sportsman driver this week is Can-Am Speedway racer Paul DeRuyter who earned his 3rd win of the season. He’s often fending off the Nier boys for Limited superiority weekly and with more finishes he too will climb the leaderboard driving his Buzz Chew Chevrolet – Clark Energy number 1D Bicknell Racing Chassis.
KOD LIMITED SPORTSMAN NOTES: By August 1st all drivers will be real time on the leaderboard with some already having 12 finishes to their credit. The interesting part of the point battle will occur with those drivers who will climb the leaderboard as they too approach 12 finishes. September 1st KOD will award the weekly starting field size bonus points setting up a fall frenzy for drivers looking to gain ground in the standings.
Fonda Speedway competitor Zach Dufel is having a learning kind of year, but crushing it after picking up his 4th win of the season Saturday night. Dufel currently leads the point standings by just nine points, but with consistency is a crown contender driving his Miracle Ear – Pro Tech Scale Services number 1H Bicknell Racing Chassis.
Danielle Smith is a hidden gem at Five Mile Point Speedway. The lady racer has seven wins to her credit this year and just needs more finishes to rocket up the leaderboard. She’s putting in the work and it will be interesting to see where the Bainbridge, NY driver ends up with her Matco Tools – Interstate Homes number 7UPjr Teo Pro Car.
