Chris Crane Jr. Finds Himself Top Of KOD Limited Sportsman Standings; Season Long Battle Came Down To Bonus Points

October 25, 2022 – West Haven, VT – Limited Sportsman Points Update: Danielle Smith is the only registered KOD Limited Sportsman driver with races left on her schedule at Five Mile Point Speedway, but she wasn’t in house Saturday October 22, 2022. That didn’t stop a major change from taking place in the Elmo’s Speed Supply Limited Sportsman point standings.

As the season was winding down for Limited Sportsman racers just prior to Oswego Dirt Week, it was brought to the attention of KOD officials there may be a discrepancy in the field size bonus points. It was believed drivers competing at Fonda Speedway weekly had too many bonus points and may be in the wrong bracket.

Upon further review it was confirmed home track bonus points for competitors at Fonda should be in the 185 bracket, and not the 200 bracket. This was significant, because it directly impacted the championship point leader at the time, and the runner up. After the home track bonus points were corrected, Chris Crane Jr. found himself top of the point standings, while Zach Dufel still remained in the top three at third.

“I spoke to Mr. Bruno and explained the situation. Bottom line, I made an error by a car and a half while doing averages while in the hospital. There’s no excuse, it had to be fixed,” said KOD Competition Director of Points and Scoring Rob Hazer.

He concluded with, “Honestly it was the right thing to do. I’m sure it’s disappointing to the 1H camp, but I want to thank both Michael Jackson who owns Zach Dufel’s car and Chris Crane who owns Chris Crane Jr’s car, for their understanding. While we pride ourselves on not making errors regularly, it happens. Lastly, I think some folks need to learn respect and patience. We took our time and made sure it was right, so the extracurricular wasn’t necessary.”

The adjustment also affected drivers Kyle Dingman and Josh Kane from Fonda who remained inside the top 10 sliding down to 9th and 10th respectively. Everything else was verified as correct and new standings were uploaded to the website.

KOD LIMITED SPORTSMAN NOTES: Updated point standings for the Limited Sportsman division can be found on the website and are as of week ending 10/23/22. Five Mile Point remains the only track offering Limited events still scheduled in 2022 where registered KOD drivers compete. Once that race passes, the points will be final. Congratulations to all drivers who took part in 2022 and we look forward to the 2023 racing season.
